Publications

The quail a symbol of courage and protection in Japanese mythology. They are associated with resilience, prosperity, and beauty.  Quail among tall autumn grasses was a popular motif among Chinese painters in the imperial court during the Southern Song dynasty (1127-1279). This theme was carried to Japan, where it continues on painting and appears on different styles of porcelain, including Kakiemon. They also appear in classical Japanese literature, notably The Tale of Genji.
