Provenance

Dr. Henry Potter Stevens Collection.   A large proportion of this collection was sold at Sothebys in 1966 where it was shown that Dr. Stevens had acquired from collectors like Cunliffe, Eumorfopoulos and Norton.

Literature

The elegant, slender women depicted on our vase were a popular motif for porcelain produced in Jingdezhen during the reign of the Kangxi Emperor. In China, they were known as mei ren (beautiful women), and lange lijzen (long Elizas) in Dutch.
