The bodies decorated with shaped cartouches containing a 'Long Eliza' in a fenced garden and a jardinière on a stand with precious objects against a stippled green ground interspersed by florets, between bands of ruyi and stiff leaves to the base, neck and rim.

For a similar example see the Rijksmuseum, (accession no. AK-RBK-16329-A), illustrated in Jörg, Chinese Ceramics in the Collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam: The Ming and Qing Dynasties, p. 259. Another blue and white pair are in the Lady Lever Art Gallery (collection no. LL 6450-51-5).

The Zwinger Museum, Dresden, has two examples of these fine famille verte vases in its esteemed Augustus the Strong collection: Inventory Number PO 4678, N 129 (Roman Numeral One). They are illustrated in The Splendor of Dresden. Five Centuries of Art Collecting. An Exhibition for the State Art Collections of Dresden, German Democratic Republic. New York: Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1978.

 

They appear in the 1721 Palace Inventory as:  '129. 3 hexagonal bottles with long like necks, 12½ in. high, 6 in. in diam' (English translation), Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, Inventory no. 324. Inventorisation of the Palais in Alt-Dresden. In the year 1721. [Addenda], Green Chinese, Ch. I. Dresden 1721, pg. 817.

 

They appear again in the 1779 Palace Inventory as: 'two hexagonal bottles with long necks, 12½ in. high, 6 in. in diam. No. 129' (English translation), Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, Inventory nos. 331 and 332. Inventorisation of the Saxon Elector's Japanese Palace at Neustadt beside Dresden with specific regard to Chinese Porcelain, Vol. 4, a) Green Chinese Porcelain, a) Garnitures, figures and dolls. Dresden 1779, fol. 15v.

 

Their acquisition note reads: 'His Royal Majesty purchased the following ware from His Excellency the Field Marshal and Miss Bassetouche in June and July 1723' (English Translation),  Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, Inventory no. 324. Inventorisation of the Palais in Alt-Dresden. In the year 1721. [Addenda], Green Chinese, Ch. I. Dresden 1721, pg. 782.
