KANGXI PORCELAIN

The rounded sides rising from a wide flat circular base, finely painted in bright shades of underglaze blue, the bulbous body decorated with two large rectangular cartouches, one enclosing a motif of precious objects, including archaic vases and censers with intricately rendered key-fret patterns and taotie masks, the central gu vase shown with flanges and enclosing two auspicious peacock feathers and coral, alongside two books depicted as bound in patterned silk, further decorated with ribboned chimes, a ruyi scepter, and an artemisia leaf, the other wide panel richly decorated with a moonlit scene of a rocky landscape scene with a lone figure standing in a canoe on a calm lake, a small dwelling and a tall gnarled pine on the shore, with birds in formation overhead, the short neck with a key-fret band below a row of small circles, the cover similarly decorated with a key-fret band around the metal finial, further decorated with interlinking scrolling tendrils and a band of spirals sound the rim, the base with the six-character mark of Chenghua within double circular lines in underglaze blue, set with metal handles and together with an intricately carved wood stand.
