Of oval shape, the straight side rising to a very gently flaring rim, with a fitted oval cover surmounted by a moulded large life-size rose sprig finial, painted in shades of underglaze blue and decorated around the body with river landscapes lined with trees and buildings, fishing boats on the river and well-painted birds in the sky, the exterior sides further decorated with moulded drapery swags tied in ribbons in underglaze blue and highlighted in gold, the rim also highlighted in gold, the cover with a band of flowered diamond-work and a further thin band framing and surrounding the large realistically modelled rose sprig finial painted in underglaze blue and detailed in gold.

Literature

The tureen is based on a model from the Swedish Marieberg factory, founded in 1758. Ordered by the Swedish East India Company the porcelain was then copied from the Swedish model in China. A tureen of this form is illustrated by Bredo L. Grandjean, Dansk Ostindisk Porcelæn, fig. 102.
