Of circular form, decorated in polychrome enamels and gilt in the Kakiemon style  over a clear glaze, painted with two plump quail among millet, prunus, bamboo and banded hedges, the rim glazed in iron-oxide, the base glazed and with one spur mark.

For an almost identical design, also with one spur mark see: The Arts Council Gallery, London, "The Oriental Ceramic Society: Loan Exhibition of Japanese Porcelain," 1956.3.28-4.28.  These  were then sold at Sotheby's, London, in: The Richard de la Mare Collection of Kakiemon and Nabeshima Porcelain, 2 June, 1976, lot 16. Provenance: Richard W.
